Reindeer Food and Prelit Christmas Trees

How Reindeer Food Can Make Your Christmas Even More Magical

What is the one thing that most kids want to do when Christmas Eve is here? They want to put milk and cookies under the prelit Christmas trees in the home to ensure that Santa does not go hungry while delivering goodies to all the boys and girls in the world. This is a tradition that has been around for a while, so most kids want to do this. And if you have kids that are worried about the reindeer…why not put Reindeer food under these prelit Christmas trees as well? While many people may think that they can put out carrot sticks, we are talking about something that is a bit more filling for the reindeer…and even better it is something that your kids can snack on as well! It can be a great addition to the tradition of sitting cookies under these prelit Christmas trees that is delicious.

What you will need:

  • Porridge oats 150g
  • Jumbo oats 150g
  • Mixed nuts 50g
  • Pumpkin seeds 25g
  • Sunflower seeds 25g
  • Golden caster sugar or brown sugar 50g
  • Sunflower oil 4tbsp
  • Golden syrup 2tbsp
  • Ground cinnamon 1/2tsp
  • Ground nutmeg 1/2tsp
  • Chopped cherries 100g
  • Sultanas 100g
  • Chopped figs 100g
  • Chopped apricots 100g

Chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, sprinkles and edible glitter – however much you desire and in whatever color you want…let the kids have some fun in deciding on this.

How to Make:

Preheat the oven to 140 degrees Celsius/120 degrees Celsius fan/gas mark 1 In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients except the cherries, apricots, figs, and mixed sweetie treats (chocolate chips, sprinkles, and edible glitter). Stir everything up thoroughly, then equally spread it out on two baking trays. After that, bake for 40 minutes in the oven.

Remove the granola from the oven and set it aside to cool for 15-20 minutes on the tray, or until completely cool. Break the granola into small chunks (excellent cluster-sized chunks) and place it in a bowl once it has chilled. Combine the chopped mixed fruits with the rest of the ingredients in a mixing bowl. Then spoon this into little bowls for the reindeer to use!

You will find that this is great for kids to eat on their own, or you can even add this to milk for a homemade cereal for Christmas morning that can start a great tradition for the entire time. You may find that you have to double the recipe so that the reindeer and the kids get their fill!
